Trucking profit calculator
Estimate what a load really earns after fuel, using its linehaul revenue, distance, fuel price, miles per gallon and driving time.
How load profit is calculated
Load profit is what a load pays minus what it costs to run. The calculator uses these steps.
- Revenue = rate per mile x miles
- Fuel cost = miles / miles per gallon x diesel price per gallon
- Profit = revenue - fuel cost - tolls - dispatch fee - other costs
- Profit per mile = profit / miles
Example: A load paying $2.50 a mile over 800 miles, at 6.5 MPG and $3.80 diesel, with a $100 dispatch fee: revenue $2,000, fuel about $468, profit about $1,432, or $1.79 a mile.
These are trip costs only. Insurance, truck payments and maintenance are not included, so compare the profit per mile with your fixed cost per mile.
